Periyar is South India's most
popular wildlife Sanctuary spread across 777 Sq Kms in the picturesque
rainforests of the Western Ghats. The sanctuary encompasses a 26 Kms artificial
lake. Created in 1934 it was designated a part of Project Tiger in 1973.
this is the only sanctuary in India that offers the unique opportunity of
viewing wild life in their natural habitat at close quarters from the
Safety of a boat on the lake. It is also the centre of spice plantations
such as Cardamom, Cloves & Pepper apart from Coffee and Tea. Periyar
